(Saint Paul, MN) – Alliance for a Better Minnesota (ABM) today unveiled a statewide television ad it is running, starting this weekend, that urges Minnesotans to call Senator Coleman and tell him to put Minnesota families above big oil. The ad is part of ABM’s ongoing issue advocacy campaign to educate and mobilize the public on battling Washington lobbyists and special interests.
“As the school year ends, Minnesota families are thinking about family vacations and trips to the lake, but high gas prices have put a damper on those summer dreams,” said Denise Cardinal, executive director of Alliance for a Better Minnesota. “At the same time, oil companies are awash in the biggest profits in American history.
“For those Minnesotans tired of complaining, and wondering what they can do, ABM is here with an answer – call Senator Norm Coleman and tell him to stop supporting tax breaks for big oil companies.
Norm Coleman accepted more than $200,000 in campaign contributions from oil company interests – but that doesn’t mean he should do their bidding. He voted to give big oil a big tax break before, but now he needs to stand up for Minnesota families facing big gas and grocery bills.”
With several weeks left in this congressional session, the U.S. Senate has many opportunities to take away the tax breaks big oil companies received in the 2005 legislation that Norm Coleman supported, Cardinal added.
